We were approached to design a commercial fit out of an old brutalist building on the main commercial strip in Smithfield. The building was a former post office and had been vacant since the late 70’s.

The brief was to design a contemporary workplace for a growing corporate entity. The final design incorporates a light  primary colour palette with timber undertones to create warm and inviting spaces. The furnishings  continue the warmth with splashes of colour to give identity to this particular client.

The challenge for us on this  project was ensuring the structure was adequate for the proposal. The concrete structural shell exhibited evidence of concrete cancer, failures in the roof waterproof membrane, plus a raft of varying other issues. After an exhaustive investigation and design process, Five Canons was able to gain approval and document a comprehensive plan for the fit out and remediation of the building to meet all current legislative requirements.
